Ibn Al-Haytham is considered one of the greatest mathematicians the world has ever seen. Born in Basra, Iraq in 965 C.E., He experimented with lenses, mirrors, and light, and invented one of the earliest forms of camera: the Camera Obscura. His “Book of Scenes” was the first book written about optics. He is the first scientist to accurately describe how we see things. Thus, he is also known as the father of optics. Furthermore, this great scientist also invented analytical geometry, and by his mathematical calculations, said that the height of earth’s atmosphere is 100 kilometers. He used lenses to remove the defections of the eye and restore vision. He is known as Alhazen to the West.
